Gardening!

I don't know if its because I am now a mother, but I am SO EXCITED to get gardening this year! Last year I started canning and can't wait to do it again. I am already thinking of what I am going to put up and double what I did last year. So far this week we are planting:

Broccoli
Carrots
Peas
Radishes

and I have already started growing some starts of:

Cucumbers
6 different heirloom tomato plants
and some more broccoli (I was inspired by my sis in-law last year to do broccoli)

We will also be planting:

Potato's
Red and yellow onions
Beans
Bell peppers (red, green, and orange)
Hot peppers (Jalapenos, hot, and possibly some habenero. We like hot salsa!)
Giant Pumpkins
Basketball pumpkins
Watermelons (every year I have failed at growing these, but this year feels lucky)
Cantaloupe
Zucchini
garlic (already planted last year)
Yellow squash
spaghetti squash
and butternut squash.
Oh yeah, and an herb garden too! (cilantro, basil, chives etc...)
(And Ryan said don't forget the giant sunflowers!)

I know it seems like a lot (and is) but we hardly buy any produce in the summer and if we do buy any it is usually just lettuce (which I want to try planting this year too!). I try to make it so that everything I bottle comes from my garden and not the store! I even dried some of my herbs last year and used them through the winter! I just wish I did more than what I had! We are really tring to become more self sufficent these days. We have chickens for the eggs, and in a worse case senario we have chicken to eat too! (they are like pets to me though, I don't know if I could actually eat them!)And I am starting to make more breads!

These are my tomato starts. I doubled each kind of tomato in case a plant didn't make it for back up, so if anyone wants some starts after I plant your welcome to them!

I love gardening!

Maggie and I went to visit her new friend Baby Isley! My good friend Ali (since I was about 8) just had her first Baby! She is so beautiful! I forgot how small they are!

Congrats Ali and Matt on the beautiful baby girl!

A Curve Ball

It is funny how life suddenly turns upside down just when you think all is right. Honestly Ryan is probably going to be pretty mad at me for posting this, but for me my blog is my journal and even though others can see it, it help me to vent and come to understand and appreciate the simple things in life.

Unfortunatly last monday Ryan went into work and then came home an hour later. He was laid off. It was totally unexpected with no warning or explanation. We are still trying to find some kind of closure as to why it happend. (I mean the guy never even took a sick day in the 4 yrs he worked for them!) Then to kick an already dead horse we saw online that they wanted to hire someone to replace him.

I know that with the help of the Lord we will be fine ( I have such a strong testimony of tithing), and as long as we will continue to do the lords will we will be blessed. (I'm hoping for one of those huge blessings in disguise) Anyways this is just one of lifes curve balls and I know we will get through it.

I just want to say to Ryan that I love you! You are an AMAZING father and husband and I honestly don't know how I could live with out you! I love you so much and thank you for all you do for Maggie and I!

Woops!

Apparently this is what happens when you boil eggs and forget about them! Oops!
